Over the past 2 weekends I have participated in 2 new adventures – my first duathlon and my first “official” race with my furry four-legged running buddy, Jonah. I have been curious about attempting a duathlon since I started riding a few months ago. I am so glad I decided to sign up for the Fall Classic at Lake Overholser. I was a little nervous going into it since I hadn’t really practiced running and biking back-to-back. And yes, my legs were a bit wobbly after that first transition from a 10-mile ride to a 2-mile run. But, I had so much fun! The course was great and I felt this was a perfect “starter” event to introduce me to yet another growing passion of mine. My husband and I are always trying to find family friendly events in which he and the kids can attend and cheer me on. This was a perfect setting with the park and lake nearby. My kids enjoyed the atmosphere and I enjoyed hearing “GO Momma!” each time I entered the transition area!
Another great family friendly event I participated in this past Sunday was the Ghost Runners 5K at Lake Hefner. I have been running with our golden retriever, Jonah, for the past couple years. I was so excited to take him outside the realm of our neighborhood streets and introduce him to a different atmosphere. We had such a good time and I am so proud at how well he did! Being that the furthest distance he had run was 2 miles, I was not sure how he would hold up for 3.1 on a warm afternoon. To my pleasant surprise, not only did he hold up, but he was able to run the entire course. We finished in 28:21… not a bad time for his first 5K!
After the run, there were baby pools set up for the dogs to cool off in (Jonah’s favorite part!) and many great booths and activities. It was a fun afternoon and one of my favorite 5K’s to date. Jonah and our family will definitely be back next year!
