As a new year of races with Team Oklahoma Sports and Fitness quickly approaches, I feel so excited to be a part of such a wonderful group. I am honored to once again represent the red jersey at many of the same races I enjoyed so much last year. Planning these races made me realize that, because of events like this, I have formed friendships with many wonderful people that I otherwise would have probably never met. The running community is like no other, and it is such a joy to connect with people that share similar interests and goals.
A few years ago, I would have never imagined that my weekends would consist of 5k’s, 10k’s, or even half marathons. Now, however, it’s hard to plan a weekend without one! There are so many awesome races going on around our state and elsewhere that I wish I could be in 2 places at once so I could experience them all! I love spending time with friends at these events and have never left a race without feeling the support and encouragement from those in the running community.
One of my favorite races to date has been the Cowtown challenge in Fort Worth, TX. The courses are great and I get to run 2 days with the back-to-back 10k and half marathon option. A few weeks ago, I returned for a second year of this challenge with a group of incredible friends. Some of my best conversations have occurred between the start and finish lines of countless runs while we experience these races together. Being able to participate in something you love with a group of people that share the same passion makes it that much better. I have thoroughly enjoyed traveling and running with them and look forward to many more years of challenges to come!
Now that this new year of races has appeared on the horizon, I look forward to spending more time with friends and family at these events. Running has become such a positive outlet in my life and I am so thankful to look at my calendar and realize I have many busy weekends ahead!
